Imran Nazir fit to play, Asif may also get chance

Karachi: Pakistani opener Imran Nazir has been declared fit to play tomorrow's ICC Champions Trophy match against Australia but whether he would make the final eleven or not depends on tour selection committee.

Pakistan manager Yawar Saeed said Nazir, who tore the webbing of his left hand while fielding against India on Saturday, has recovered well and is available for selection.

Saeed also said there was a possibility paceman Mohammed Asif playing his first international match in 16 months since he was suspended.

"Pakistan is through to the semi-finals so we can take a chance with Asif but the final decision will rest with the tour selectors," Saeed said from Johannesburg.

Indications are that Asif may be drafted into the playing XI as coach Intikhab Alam wants to give Umar Gul rest before the knockout stage.

Saeed also made it clear that the players were focused on continuing their winning momentum and would try to win tomorrow's match regardless of the fact that a win could benefit India, who have to beat West Indies in their final group match to qualify for the knockout stage.

"We are not bothered about what other teams are doing or where they are placed. Our team is playing well and it is important for us to continuing the winning momentum before the semi-finals and it would be a big boost if we can beat the World Champions," he insisted.
